Avenue P town hall forum

  • Date: 02/05/2018 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Residents along Avenue P will get a status update on City efforts to relieve flooding in their neighborhood at a town hall forum City Councilman Harry Thomas hosts Feb. 5.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 11 W. Avenue N. The public is invited.

The City Council has authorized the purchase of four pieces of property needed to build a detention pond to lessen flooding along Avenue P. Design of that project has begun.

City engineers plan to build a detention pond on the lots that could hold the stormwater of a storm that could produce up to 5.25 inches of rain over a 24-hour span. It will prevent stormwaters from rushing down Avenue P and flooding homes along the street.

After the pond is built, City engineers will continue to seek means to further reduce flooding along Avenue P.
