Public hearing on Twin Buttes hunting program
- Date: 04/18/2017 7:00 PM
- Location: McNease Convention Center
501 Rio Concho Dr.
San Angelo, Texas 76903
The hearing begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at the Convention Center, located at 501 Rio Concho Drive.
Lt. Game Warden Jason Huebner said the purpose of the hearing is twofold. One, Texas Parks and Wildlife will update the public on the status of its road and trail plan around Twin Buttes. Game wardens will also talk about potential grants to improve the property, dove fields, game census counts, grazing leases and law enforcement issues. Two, TPWD will solicit public input on its progress since it began managing Twin Buttes’ hunting program last year.
Twin Buttes is owned by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. That federal agency contracts with the City of San Angelo to manage the lake, which serves as a water source for San Angelo. The City last year contracted with Texas Parks & Wildlife to manage the public hunting program at Twin Buttes.
As of Sept. 1, 2016, fishing, hiking, camping or picnicking at Twin Buttes requires a limited public use permit, which costs $12 per year. The annual public hunting permit is $48 and includes all the public uses, as well. Both permits may be purchased at tpwd.texas.gov; at any TPWD office, including at San Angelo State Park; at any retail hunting or fishing license dealer; or by calling 1-800-TX-LIC-4U (895-4248).
