Fort to host western art show

Post Date:06/22/2017 7:27 AM

Fort Concho will host a special western art show by four painters of the American Plains Artists Association in Barracks 6, with an opening from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 29.

The reception and show are free. The display will be open 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Sundays. Barracks 6 is on Henry O. Flipper Street, two blocks from South Oakes Street on the fort’s northeast corner.

The four artists were chosen from a large show the APA hosted last year. They are

Maryann Bartman of Merriville, Indiana; Jennifer Hunter of Port Barrington, Illinois; Don Weller of Peoa, Utah; and J.C. Fontecchio of Moscow, Idaho. Each will display a dozen works that reflect classic themes of the American west. As with the previous APA shows, there will be depictions of cowboys, Indians, horses, mountains, landscapes and other topics that bring to mind the rich heritage of the vast lands west of the Mississippi River.

The artwork will be for sale. Proceeds will benefit the artists and Fort Concho.  The show runs through Sunday, July 30.

“We have enjoyed our partnership with the APA,” Fort Concho Manager Bob Bluthardt said, “and we look forward to this summer show and the big 2018 show next summer.”

Next year’s show will be June 28-Aug. 5.
