WIC office closure postponed until July
A planned closure later this month of the offices of San Angelo’s Women, Infants and Children program has been postponed until July.
The offices will be closed July 9-12 as the WIC staff trains on new software. The closures will include the program’s main office downtown and its three satellite locations in Ballinger and Coleman, and at Goodfellow Air Force Base. WIC plans a light schedule of appointments the week of July 16-19 as staff gains familiarity with the new software.
The closure was initially scheduled to occur this month, but state officials are still tweaking the software program, which necessitated the delay.
Once installed, the software will allow WIC to convert to a paperless system. Clients will then receive text and email appointment reminders, paper prescriptions will be eliminated for non-contract baby formulas, and WIC staff will be able to access client information from other clinics.
Women, Infants and Children is a City-administered nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, infants and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy. WIC’s main offices in the Community Development Building, 52 W. College Ave., are open 7 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The office is also open by appointment from 8 a.m.-noon the second Saturday of each month.
