The Nature Center offers opportunities for the community to get involved with our programs, projects and maintenance.

How does one become a volunteer?

Fill out a volunteer form. Applicants must be at least 13 years of age. If you are younger than 18, you must have a parent or guardian sign the application and a liability form stating you and your parent/guardian understands the potential risks. You will not handle or work with any venomous animals.

Will I get to start immediately?

When you start will depend upon the Nature Center's schedule. Our director will be in contact with you when an opportunity arises. Our busiest time for volunteers is in the summertime, from May to August.

What will i get to do as a volunteer?

There are four volunteer positions:

  • Animal Care Assistants volunteer at least eight hours per month. These hours can be completed from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. These volunteers help maintain the health and well-being of the animals in the Nature Center’s collection by preparing diets, as well as cleaning the animal exhibits.
  • Naturalist Assistants volunteer at least eight hours per month. These hours can be completed during our birthday time slots, Mondays through Thursdays as needed, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Fridays, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturdays, and from 12 p.m.-7 p.m. Sundays. These volunteers will lead tours on an as-needed basis, will present animals during presentations, and will help with preparations and cleanups.
  • General Assistants volunteer a minimum of eight hours per month. These hours can be completed anytime the Nature Center is open. Duties will include, but are not limited to, visiting with patrons, animal interaction, facility upkeep and assisting with office work.
  • Special Events Assistants serve on an as-needed” basis, assisting with summer camps, holiday events, overnight sleepovers at the Nature Center and any other event the center may host. These volunteers must be creative and enjoy working with animals and children.
