Registration for the 5K and 1-mile runs is $20 at getmeregistered.com/CityFit5K. Race day registration will also be available beginning at 4 p.m. at Unidad Park, 3245 Vista Del Arroyo. The runs begin at 6 p.m. and will wind along the Red Arroyo Trail. Medals will be awarded to the winners.
Last year’s race raised more than $2,500 that Art in Uncommon Places used to place public artwork along the 14-foot-wide, 4-mile cement trail that connects Sherwood Way and Knickerbocker Road. This year’s event will help build a picturesque entry to the trail’s new open-air museum.
A joint effort that involved the City of San Angelo, Community Health Club and the San Angelo Road Lizards, last year’s CityFit 5K drew 159 participants.
“We were thrilled with last year’s turnout,” said Budget Manager Morgan Chegwidden, who heads the City’s Working on Wellness committee. “This year, we’re aiming to top 200 runners and walkers. There was a lot of sweating and a lot of smiling at the end of last year’s race. We promise a great time getting fit.”
