Independence Day: City offices closed July 5

  • Date: 07/05/2021

Most City offices will be closed Monday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day. There will be no interruption in garbage collection but the landfill will be closed on Saturday, July 3. Landfill operations will resume on Monday, July 5, with regular hours.

Fireworks

It is illegal to discharge or possess fireworks inside or within 5,000 feet of San Angelo city limits. It is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $2,000. To report illegal fireworks or fireworks usage, please contact the non-emergency dispatch number at 325-657-4315.

Municipal Pool

The Municipal Pool will be open on July 4th weekend, with public swimming from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday through Monday. Admission is $5 for ages 3-64, free for children 2 and younger, and $3 for ages 65 and older.

On Saturday, July 3, the pool will reopen at 6:30 p.m. for guests to view the July 3 fireworks at the River Stage with a fun, family friendly splash party. The pool will close for the evening once the fireworks have concluded. The fireworks show is tentatively scheduled to take place at 10:40 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased at the Parks and Recreation office at 702 S. Chadbourne for $10 in advance. If tickets do not sell out – which they typically do – they will be sold at the door on July 3 for $15.

For more information, call the Parks and Recreation office at 325-657-4279 or visit cosatx.us/pool.

Lake Nasworthy parks

Day passes to Middle Concho and Spring Creek parks at Lake Nasworthy are available at their respective entry gates for $3 per vehicle for City residents and $6 per vehicle for non-residents. Camping permits cost $6 per campsite per night for City residents and $12 for non-residents. Permits can be purchased at the entry gates or Spring Creek Marina. Dollar bills larger than $20 will not be accepted at the lake gates.

Fort Concho

On Saturday, July 3, Fort Concho will celebrate an old Independence Day Army tradition: firing hourly artillery salutes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Parade Ground near Barracks 1 Visitor Center to mark the nation’s 245th birthday. There will be no charge to watch the artillery or to enter the Visitor Center. Regular site charges will be in effect for the rest of the fort’s 10 tour buildings, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

As a reminder, the American Plains Art Show is ongoing at the fort through Aug. 1 in Barracks 6, located off Henry O. Flipper Street on the fort’s northeast corner. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sundays. The show is free to all.
