Background: This project intended to solve the problem of water overwhelming Avenue P during heavy rains, which caused substantial flooding of the area and many homes. The pond was designed to catch the initial slug of water and slowly discharge it, leading to a more controlled release to alleviate flooding in the area. Construction began in March 2020. During this time, crews excavated about 52,000 cubic-yards of dirt, or about 5,500 dump truck loads. The pond is 7 feet deep and covers about 5 acres. It was a $2.3 million project that was funded using Stormwater capital project funds.
