Watch some of the top PleinAir artists from across the country paint all week around San Angelo and on private ranches in the area! Noted as one of the top plein air competitions in the U.S., EnPleinAirTEXAS has an exciting week of activities and more than $30,000 in prize money for the winning artists. “En plein air” is the French term for painting outdoors in the open air.

In 1921, artists and teachers gathered on the South Concho River near Christoval to paint at the Texas Artist Camp, which became one of the best-known organizations of its kind in the Southwest.

Sunday, Oct. 22
Special welcome event for sponsors & friends of EnPleinAirTEXAS to meet the 2023 competition artists.

Monday, Oct. 23

• Free paint day – artists are free to paint anywhere that inspires them today.
• 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Early viewing and sale of artwork from area ranches painted earlier this week at Gallery Verde, 417 S. Oakes St. Plus, a special 10th Anniversary Exhibit of 9 years of the Grand Prize paintings on loan from private collectors.

• Free paint day – All day the competition artists are painting all around San Angelo and just outside of town.
• Afternoon – Find artists painting at the International Water Lily Collection on 2 S. Park St.
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early viewing and sale of artwork from area ranches painted earlier this week at Gallery Verde, 417 S. Oakes St.

Wednesday, Oct. 25

• Free paint day – Find artists all day along Concho Avenue or along the Concho River in and near downtown San Angelo.
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Early viewing and sale of artwork from area ranches painted earlier this week at Gallery Verde, 417 S. Oakes St.
• 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Car show and street party, complete with food and music, on 2^nd Street between Chadbourne and Gillis streets. Cars and motorcycles will serve as the artists’ subject matter. The car show is free and open to the public.

Thursday, Oct. 26

• Field ranch experience with the artists - Spend a morning out on the ranch with the artists! Limited number of tickets. Purchase here.

Friday, Oct. 27

• Artists turn in paintings from the week for tonight’s event.
• Artists visit all San Angelo public schools for special demonstrations.
• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Lunch talk by last year’s grand prize winner at the Cactus Hotel. Purchase ticket here.
• 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – Stampede Awards Party & Sale at the Fort Concho Stables, 210 Henry O. Flipper St. Be the first to view the full collection of almost 300 fresh paintings of Texas Ranchlands and our San Angelo area this evening! More than $25,000 in cash awards will be presented to winning artists. Tickets are $100 per person & include a $100 credit towards painting purchase.

Saturday, Oct. 28

• 9 a.m. to noon – Anyone may join in the fun and paint at the Chicken Farm! Register online or pay that morning to be included in the judging. Awards in the Competition Artist and Open Category. More info here.
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Final exhibit and sale held at the Fort Concho Stables.
