Fort Concho will celebrate Armed Forces Day Saturday, May 18, with an hourly firing of its howitzer from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Parade Ground in front of the Visitor Center at Barracks 1, 630 South Oakes St.
There will be special displays of period weaponry and other artifacts on the Barracks 1 porch. Inside Barracks 1, the special buffalo soldier and Native American displays will be available, plus the site’s nine additional tour/exhibit buildings will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In honor of the nation’s military, there will be no site admission charge to any current or former member of the nation’s armed forces and their families that day.
