The meeting will be held in the East Mezzanine at City Hall, 72 W. College Avenue.
Meet and Confer refers to a law the Texas Legislature passed in 2005 known as Local Government Code 174. The law states that firefighters and police officers have the right to organize for collective bargaining as a fair and practical method to determine compensation and other conditions of employment.
In 2007, San Angelo police officers agreed to be covered by Meet and Confer, and firefighters did not.
The purpose of LGC 174 for public employers and organized employee groups is to meet at reasonable times and to confer in good faith regarding compensation, hours and other conditions of employment. Hence, the more common name for LGC 174 is "Meet and Confer".
Once an agreement is negotiated, it is executed for a specific time period. Meet and Confer negotiations are concluded; the current contract between the City and the police officer associations will expire on Sept. 30, 2017.
Meet and Confer meetings will called on an as-needed basis. All meetings will be announced and published to the public.
