Applying for a building permit
How do I apply for a building permit for new residential construction, additions and renovations?
- Review the new residential construction handout or the residential additions & renovations handout.
- Complete a building permit application.
- Email completed application and drawings to sapermits@cosatx.us.
- All fees are due when the permit is issued according to the schedule of fees and charges.
How do I apply for a building permit for commercial construction, additions or renovations?
An application request for a Building Permit, Planning, Engineering and Fire Prevention requires the applicant to complete an application form that must be submitted to applications@cosatx.us.
Upon submission of an application, you will be notified via email of your project number and any task that is required to move your project forward. The first task will be to upload the plans and associated documentation, which will be reviewed and approved electronically. Upon approval of plans, any applicable permit fees must be paid. Some fees will be due at time of application — staff will contact you about this.
*Documents may be provided in alternative formats upon request. Please contact the Permits Department to request a document in an alternative format. If Residential, please contact sapermits@cosatx.us. If Commercial, please contact applications@cosatx.us.
