Fireworks
Shooting or possessing fireworks inside or within 5,000 feet of city limits is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a max fine of $2,000. To report illegal fireworks, please contact the non-emergency dispatch number at 325-657-4315. Please also check for burn ban status via Tom Green County.
If you’re using small fireworks like sparklers or shooting from outside city limits, our Fire Marshal’s Office has some tips to keep yourself and others safe.
Always:
- Buy from reliable sellers.
- Stay away from illegal explosives.
- Have water on hand.
- Use outdoors only.
- Read and follow label directions.
- Have an adult present.
- Wear eye protection and never have any part of the body over the firework.
NEVER:
- Relight a “dud” firework. Wait 15-20 min then soak in water.
- Light more than one firework at a time.
- Throw or point fireworks at others.
- Carry fireworks in your pocket.
- Shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers.
- Make your own fireworks.
- Give fireworks to children.
