About us
The Fire Department's mission is to provide the community the highest level of life safety and property conservation through the extension of training, fire prevention, emergency medical services, fire suppression and emergency management.
The SAFD employs 163 classified firefighters/EMS personnel that operate out of eight fire stations.
The Fire Department has five divisions: Fire Suppression, Fire Administration, Fire Training, Fire Marshal, Emergency Management.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
The SAFD is the only emergency medical service provider for the City of San Angelo. With 163 classified positions, the Fire Department has trained and certified all personnel to a paramedic level of certification. The SAFD provides ambulance service to all of Tom Green County, responding to more than 12,500 ambulance calls a year. The Fire Department's EMS provides advance life support and transports patients to medical facilities within Tom Green County.
Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF)
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires airport firefighters to receive specialized training. The SAFD has 15 firefighters who have been certified as Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) personnel. They rotate in manning the Striker stationed at Fire Station No. 8, which is strategically located on the San Angelo Regional Airport grounds.
ARFF certification requires successful completion of 120 hours in 16 areas ranging from basic aircraft rescue to federal aviation regulations.
