Roadways: City or State?
Not all roads in San Angelo fall under the responsibility of the City to maintain. The major thoroughfares in town, including Loop 306, North and South Bryant (also Abe and Koenigheim), Beauregard/Sherwood Way and Knickerbocker, are owned and maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Other roadways (listed below) are also TxDOT roadways.
The City of San Angelo and TxDOT have a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that spells out the City and TxDOT’s responsibilities for these roads. Road maintenance, which includes patching, potholing, ice control and sweeping, on these roadways are performed solely by TxDOT. TxDOT is also responsible for litter collection and mowing along these thoroughfares. The major role played by the City on these roads involve the signalized intersections, which are maintained by the City in the form of routine maintenance, repairs and timing patterns. The signals on the access roads to Loop 306 (Knickerbocker, Southwest, College Hills, Howard Street, Main Street, etc.) are maintained exclusively by TxDOT.
